Sunday 20th November
Saint Michael the Archangel Parish feast day.

Thanks be to God for a glorious day of celebration for our parish feast day celebrated on Sunday 20th November!

His Grace Bishop Irinej and Deacon Nemanja Mrdjenovic celebrated the Divine Liturgy with parish priest Fr John Vesic and Fr George Veselinovic. Special guests were also Fr Michael Smolynec from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as well as Popadijas Erika Cholich and Karen Veselinovic.

The worship was very prayerful with the choir singing beautifully in the English language with Serbian, Russian and Byzantine melodies. His Grace Bishop Irinej spoke in his sermon about the angels who marvel at human beings in God's creation and yet who are the leaders in worship in heaven and bringing God's words to us. He spoke about the Gospel lesson of the demonised man in the land of the Gadarenes who was freed by our Lord Jesus Christ. He reminded us of the challenge to stay continually close to Christ and his Church so that we can all be released of anything that oppresses us and live a pure life. Even the swine did not wish to contain the demons that were sent into them as they fell into water to be purified.

At the end of the liturgy His Grace blessed the Slava Kolach and zito as we prayed for all the members of our parish and those who have passed away before us. Especially in this last year we remember Mr Eugene Podhaiski and his enormous contribution to St Michael's parish. His Grace also prayed for the newly elected committee members after their oath of commitment to St Michael's Church. These members were recently elected at the Annual General Meeting along with two new trustees.

Many thanks to George Portelli for obtaining and setting up with his helpers the new outside shelters for the day. Also many thanks from Fr John and all committee members to all the parishioners, in particular the ladies, grandparents and youth who worked so hard and donated food and drinks for the beautiful lunch and wonderful hospitality.
